Workshop Overview

Does strength training stabilise the spine?

Is it correct to brace or draw in when performing exercises?

How do you progress core training from working with a client in pain to return to work/sport?

Swiss balls – good or bad?

This course covers the theory and practice of core training.  Core training techniques will be justified then participants will learn how to perform and teach exercises.

Core stability and strength research is summarised and muscle function classification provides a framework of how to classify core conditioning exercises.

Key local stability training techniques for clients with injury and pain will be taught.  Spinal stiffness and dynamic strength training exercises will also be covered.  Participants will learn a range of exercises suitable for beginners and injured clients through to athletes.  The concepts of key practitioners; Stuart McGill, Shirley Sahrmann, Paul Chek, Queensland University, and Kinetic Control will be applied to core training.
